MEI, a global leader in designing and producing innovative solutions for the optical industry, achieved great success at the 2025 MIDO convention.
In Pavilion 6, MEI presented its range of industrial solutions for medium and large laboratories. Including BispheraTBA Phoenix, 4RacerTBA Swift, and CoreTBA, the revolutionary Block-less Freeform Lens Production system. Pavilion 3 focused on MEI solutions for the retail market, featuring EasyFit Trend, the innovative and environmentally sustainable lens edger, and EasyBuddy, the automated system with an integrated cobot that feeds EasyFit Trend, increasing independence from manual interventions and enhancing productivity.
EasyFit Trend was showcased at MIDO with the new SMART FACETS feature, a polished decorative element for rimless ophthalmic lenses. It can be present on both the front and back of the lens, similar to a large inclined bevel. Smart Facets represents the fastest and most reliable solution on the market, eliminating the risk of asymmetry between the right and left lenses.
Thanks to the intuitive EyeGOAL interface and the new tools’ configuration, the lenses can be fully customized with polished facets of varying sizes, ensuring maximum precision and uniform aesthetics on both lenses.
The Smart Facets feature is also available as an upgrade for EasyFit Trend MAX, allowing opticians and laboratories to meet all customer requests while maintaining maximum productivity.
Another exciting announcement made at MIDO I 4D Trace, the all-in-one device that integrates a commercial tracer, MEI’s Flawless Fit, a barcode reader, and a monitor that displays the traced results.
Everyone in the industry deals with fitting issues. These issues result from several factors related to the lens, the frame, the edger, and the tracer. MEI tried to consider all of them and developed the 4D Trace, the solution capable of significantly improving the fitting rate of all frames in which the bevel profile and the frame groove profile do not match perfectly.
4D Trace is the ideal solution for:
- Optical shops that perform remote edging through a centralized laboratory. The optical store, with 4D Trace connected to the LMS (Lab Management System), provides the detected data and shape to the laboratory to ensure the correct lens edging for a perfect first-time fit.
- Laboratories that, thanks to the extremely precise data provided by 4D Trace, can qualify the different types of frames in their database, ensuring a perfect lens cut and, consequently, a quick and immediate fit.
- Opticians who, by combining 4D Trace with EasyFit Trend, achieve the lens’s perfect fit.
MEI’s innovations extend to other stages of the lens production process. At MIDO, MEI launched the new ClearXM, the innovative solution for cleaning and cosmetic inspection of cut lenses.
ClearXM is a very compact system that combines a loading system able to accommodate any shape of edged and uncut eyeglass lens with a cleaning section made of sealed chambers designed to avoid contamination.
With the incorporated imaging technology, ClearXM optimizes the cleaning process and applies the appropriate pressure and movement patterns to effectively remove dust, smudges, or other particles from the lens surface while avoiding the risk of scratching or other damage.
Additionally, ClearXM soon will have the option of the integrated cosmetic control, performed right after the cleaning of the lenses, a control onto a perfectly cleaned surface, limiting the risks to
wrongly judge dust or other debris. This option, called SurfXM, learns from each lens and continuously auto-improves its performance without impacting the machine cycle time.
This option for detecting defects on the surface of lenses, both cut and uncut, was also presented as a prototype solution in the stand-alone version, called SurfXM Stand.
SurfXM Stand is a compact, semi-automatic device developed by MEI to ensure quick and effective quality control of the lens surface. This new solution allows for the acquisition of high-resolution images of lenses, emphasizes lens defects with algorithms developed by MEI R&D, and evaluates them by comparing them with a comprehensive database. Finally, SurfXM is capable of inspecting round or edged lenses, ensuring accurate quality control in line with MEI standards.
