Miscelánea invites us to explore the connections between Japanese and Mediterranean culture through environments where tradition and innovation coexist.
Etnia Barcelona once again demonstrates its connection to the art world, this time with the launch of Miscelánea. The campaign, through which the Barcelona eyewear brand presents its new Autumn-Winter 2023 collection, portrays a world full of symbolism where two cultures converge: Japanese and Mediterranean.
Miscelánea portrays unique surrealistic atmospheres starring female characters, whose composition is a clear nod to classical pictorial art. In each image, elements of Japanese and Mediterranean culture coexist, along with traditional and modern objects. The result: pictorial works that intertwine two cultures and decontextualize symbols, blending tradition and innovation and offering multiple levels of interpretation. Miscelánea also revives the concept of “Be Anartist,” a motto that has accompanied the brand since 2017, inviting rebellion through art as a means of finding one’s own form of expression.
With this campaign, photographed by Biel Capllonch, Etnia Barcelona highlights the cultural and artistic legacy of two seemingly distinct and distant worlds: the Mediterranean, a place that inspires and has witnessed the brand’s growth, and Japan, an ancient region rich in symbolism and mythological legends.
This mix of influences is also reflected in the designs of the new optical collection, which stand out for their combination of natural acetates with textures and details inspired by Japan, featuring bold shapes with a Mediterranean character. Notable novelties include prints representing koi fish scales, cherry blossom colors, or a circular detail on the temple symbolizing the rising sun.
The Autumn-Winter 2023 collection is now available at selected optical stores (consult the brand’s shopfinder on the website), at www.etniabarcelona.com, and at its flagship store.
