AYA Eyewear is thrilled to announce the launch of its latest collection, a collaboration with renowned Indigenous artist Phil Gray. The Humpback Whale Collection celebrates the extraordinary return of humpback whales to the Pacific Northwest, while also supporting UNYA, (Urban Native Youth Association) a Vancouver-based non-profit that is the centre of Indigenous youth excellence, supporting youth on their journeys by amplifying and celebrating their voices.

Phil Gray is a master Tsimshian artist hailing from British Columbia. Phil’s work draws from the rich traditions of the Tsimshian people, blending classic Indigenous themes with a modern aesthetic. His deep understanding of formline design, paired with his innovative approach, has earned him recognition both locally and internationally.

Gray’s contributions to Indigenous art go beyond his craft. His pieces are a celebration of cultural heritage, embodying the stories, symbols, and spirituality of the Tsimshian Nation. From public art installations to personal commissions, Gray’s work continues to inspire and educate, reflecting the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples.

Once again in collaboration with AYA Eyewear, Phil brings his cultural vision to the Humpback Whale Collection, where the resurgence of the humpback whale is celebrated.  The return of balance and harmony in the natural world is significant for Indigenous people, as whales hold profound cultural and spiritual significance for them. Gray’s artistic influence is deeply felt throughout the collection, as each piece is imbued with cultural significance and respect for traditional forms of storytelling through art.

Luna is a chic and stylish cat-eye frame from this collection. This sophisticated design is available in two flattering color options: crystal grey and purple. Each frame showcases an on-trend color-blocking technique, adding an extra touch of modern elegance to your look, while the temples of the Luna frames feature the stunning humpback whale detail. $185

Derek, a men’s style from AYA Eyewear, is a lightweight frame that is perfect for wider faces, Over the years, AYA customers have offered feedback that they would like to see offerings of over-sized fit frames. AYA listened and developed styles specifically for individuals who seek a tailored fit that accommodates broader facial structures.
