REGENESIS Unveils Carbonite™ at SILMO Paris 2025
The world’s first unbreakable, carbon-capturing eyewear material moves from R&D to the showroom – turning waste into high-performance, stylish frames
After two years of intense research, development, and testing, Regenesis today launches Carbonite™, the world’s first practically unbreakable eyewear material engineered from ocean-bound plastic waste and captured carbon. Making its global debut at SILMO Paris 2025, Carbonite marks a new era for eyewear, where performance, design, and sustainability converge at scale.

First introduced as a prototype at MIDO 2025 in Milan, Carbonite has since evolved from vision to production-ready. The patent-pending composite combines ocean-bound plastics recovered from Indonesian rivers and mangrove forests with biochar from discarded coconut shells, locking away CO₂ while transforming pollution into a new category of high-value material. Reinforced with AI-engineered recycled carbon fiber and a breakthrough form of modified graphene 200x stronger than steel, Carbonite delivers a level of durability, flexibility, and comfort never before seen in eyewear.
“With Carbonite, we are not just introducing another material, we are rewriting the rulebook for what eyewear can be,” said Marcos Bulacio, CEO & Founder of Regenesis. “This is performance that protects the planet. Every frame removes waste, captures CO₂, and empowers brands to lead the industry toward a regenerative future.”
At the heart of Carbonite is EcoFusion™, Regenesis’ proprietary technology that fuses discarded plastics with carbon-locking biochar. The result is a climate-positive material that:
▪ Removes 1 kg of plastic waste per frame sold
▪ Locks CO₂ inside the product’s structure
▪ Matches or exceeds the performance of virgin Nylon TR90
▪ Delivers cost savings compared to traditional performance plastics
▪ Aims to reduce emissions by approximately 80%
▪ Provides full traceability with a digital
Designed for both sport and fashion eyewear, Carbonite™ frames are lightweight, flexible, and nearly unbreakable, available in a wide spectrum of coated colors and coating-free tones. The material is fully recyclable and scalable for global adoption, setting a new benchmark for sustainable eyewear design.
With operations in Bali and expansion underway at the Center of Advanced 2D Materials (NUS, Singapore), Regenesis is laying the foundation for the next generation of materials. Beyond eyewear, the company is preparing to scale Carbonite into fabrics, accessories, apparel, and consumer
HIGHLIGHT: Key firsts in eyewear materials
▪ Made from recycled post-consumer ocean-bound plastic waste from mangrove forests, rivers, and coastal communities
▪ Engineered with carbon-locking biochar for climate-positive impact
▪ Reinforced with a new type of modified graphene enhanced with oxygen atoms along the edges, for superior dispersion
▪ Equipped with QR codes for traceable origin and production across the supply chain
▪ Matching the performance of virgin Nylon TR90 while using upcycled commodity plastic waste
