VANNI wins the 2024 Responsible Company award at the Silmo Paris International Optical Fair

Georges et Phina, Canadian distributor of VANNI eyewear since 1995 is proud to announce the company’s latest international recognition in the field of environmental responsibility.

“Being a responsible company in the eyewear industry means not only helping people to see better, but to help us all see a better world” says Alessandra Girardi, sustainability manager at VANNI.

The prize aims to reward the company for its exemplary approach in reducing its environmental impact and optimising its social contribution. VANNI was given the honour at the Silmo Gala on September 21, with this motivation:

“As the first Italian company in the eyewear industry to become a “Società Benefit” (the Italian equivalent of a “benefit corporation”) in 2021, VANNI has demonstrated that it monitors its social, environmental and community performance in terms of figures and best practices”.

VANNI became a “Società Benefit” in 2021, formally stating in its Statute its commitment to advancing its goals of common good, alongside those of profit, and committing to achieving systemic results that engage with the environment and society—assets that are often intangible and not fully account for by numbers alone, but nevertheless contribute to the value created by the company.

In this past year VANNI has concretely committed to sustainability of the planet. It conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA – life cycle analysis, calculating the amount of Carbon Dioxide released through the life of the product) on an acetate frame, to determine that each eyewear model represents 2.35 kg of carbon dioxide, a number below the average reference values of the sector, thanks to the use of Italian raw materials and to the choice to manufacture everything on the national territory. “Made in Italy, for sure” is a VANNI hallmark. VANNI has always maintained that producing in Italy is a choice that makes the difference, and has proven both numerically and analytically to be the right choice for the environment.

“We’re very excited and grateful to receive this prize, it is an acknowledgement that comes after years of commitment, invisible behind the scenes but very concrete. It is a reflection of our way of doing business: always prioritising choices that have a beneficial impact on the planet and society. It’s not an easy fast track solution: it takes commitment and patience. It also takes incredible teamwork at both our headquarters and with the global VANNI network. We all share and put into practice every day, a responsible approach. It’s a prize for all of us: large as a worldwide embrace” said Giovanni Vitaloni Founder and President of VANNI.
