Looking good while living an active lifestyle is important at any age.
For the older clientele, there are a wide array of options available for active eyewear.
Safilo has several styles that will fit the lifestyle of any active senior.
“We have lightweight frames for activities that are more physical, such as walking or aerobics, and sunglasses with different coloured polarized lenses for different activities such as golf, fishing and tennis,” says Robin Brush, Safilo North America’s key accounts manager and a former optician.
Many of today’s seniors are looking for eyewear that can transition their look from day to evening and to active and on-the-go.
Safilo says the Dior 3271 is a perfect example of this type of frame. It is a lightweight acetate frame, but features the classic Dior styling that’s perfect for an evening out.
“Baby boomers are traveling and on-the go and, for many, retiring means to travel. They want more than one pair of eyeglasses and sunglasses,” says Brush. “They want a pair of sunglasses for driving, comfortable pairs of eyeglasses and sunglasses for travel and stylish pairs for social activities with friends.”
WestGroupe is another eyewear company that has many brands and styles available that are perfect for today’s active seniors.
“WestGroupe’s Spy, Superflex and Evatik eyewear is perfect for active consumers that are looking for lightweight, durable, comfortable eyewear with a sportier look,” says Beverly Suliteanu, vice-president of product development.
Baby Boomers are very active and are looking for eyewear and sunwear that will keep up with their busy lifestyles.
“Clean, contemporary styling is perfect for those who are looking for transitional designs that are appropriate for daytime, leisure time and nighttime wear,” says Suliteanu.
“For men, adding a fun accent colour like red, orange or green can elevate a conservative design into something fun and sporty.”
Ogi is another go-to brand for today’s seniors.
“We’ve been seeing our Scojo New York gels collections as super popular for the older demographic,” says Chelsey Wright, Ogi Eyewear designer. “Seniors are as active and busy as any other age range and gels really cater to that lifestyle – comfy and lightweight and ready to use anywhere.”
The Gels Manhattan style is made of strong, yet flexible Swiss-made TR-90 and forms the ultimate in lightweight flexibility in a full frame. The optical quality lens also has a scratch-resistant coating.
“At Ogi, we think certain looks are more a matter of perception. Our Scojo gels are the first choice for seniors no matter the activity,” says Wright. “Active eyewear can sometimes not appeal to an older market. Our gel collection fits that lifestyle of comfortability and independence.”
