From Shilling Optical:

HARRY SHILLING  September 17, 1921 – August 20, 2017

It is a sad day in the optical industry on the news of the passing of Harry Shilling, a pioneer in the eyeglass case business.

Harry’s career in the optical business began in 1967 with Monarch Optical selling primarily frames, lenses and lab work.

In 1977, at the young age of 55 Harry started Shilling Optical Cases and was the pioneer of making the eyeglass case an important part of dispensing eyewear.  He truly felt that the case was an important part of the packaging and marketing for any optician or optometrist.  Harry thought that giving someone a quality eyeglass case was a nice way to say “Thank-you” before finishing the dispensing of the job. In the early days of the business Harry use to get in his car and travel from Ontario to B.C. visiting all of his customers, and his customers were his friends.

In 2003 Harry retired from Shilling Optical and for the last 14 years Howard Shilling and Michael Feigen have been running the business and plan on keeping his legacy alive by continuing to offer superior eyeglass cases, cleaning cloths and lens cleaner to all the Eyecare professionals across Canada.
