Rodenstock has denied rumours Essilor and Hoya are interested in acquiring the company.

A report in Bloomberg Business this week noted that both companies have been in informal talks with Rodenstock.

“We generally do not comment on rumors. There is currently no process taking place regarding the sale of Rodenstock,” said Eva-Maria Mueller, Corporate Communications/Public Relations Manager for Rodenstock.

Reports indicate a potential sale could be valued at more than €500m, though a formal offer has not been made by either party.

In 2006 buyout firm Bridgepoint acquired Rodenstock from Permira for an undisclosed sum.
Reports indicate the company is working with Goldman Sachs to explore ‘growth options’.

Last year Plastic Plus Limited took over the Canadian distribution for Rodenstock Canada.

Over the past 2 years Essilor has made several large industry acquisitions including Coastal Contacts/Clearly Contacts, Transitions Optical and FGX International.

According to NASDAQ figures, in 2014, Essilor’s consolidated revenue totaled 5.67 billion euros, which was up by 13.4 per cent year-over-year excluding the currency effect.

None of the companies involved in the acquisition have offered comment.
