THE WHY: We have recently seen a shift in the weighting of services listed on Google Business Profiles as a ranking factor for the map pack when someone is searching for businesses. Lacking or having incorrectly optimized services nearly ensures that your practice will never show in the top 3.


THE HOW: Go to Google and make a search for your practice while logged into the email address that has access to your Google Business Profile. You will see the profile dashboard appear at the top of the page, find and click ‘Edit Services’. Ensure that your primary category is set correctly for your business (usually optometrist/optician/ophthalmologist). Now click the “+ Add more services” and add a separate entry for each of your services. Use phrasing used by your patients where possible to ensure better matches when someone does a search, e.g., Dry Eye Treatment vs Dry Eye Exam.
