What’s hot for eyewear for 2019?
Clear acetates are reigning high for women, along with stripes and geometric patterns for men and women and a throwback to retro styles.

Simple and classic is what Spectacle Eyeworks is noticing in men’s and women’s eyewear for 2019.
“Stainless steel frames and smaller shapes are what’s hot and we will start seeing more and more in the upcoming years,” says Mehran Baghaie, Spectacle’s operations director and chief designer.

The stainless steel Shandeh frame incorporates an added v-shape, double-break accent on top of the frame to exaggerate the cat-eye motif.
The Retro line by Spectacle is a collection of cool, confident designs with current old-school style, while its Wood collection offers two new styles, including an iconic aviator design.

WestGroupe is noticing several hot design trends for 2019.
“Stripes are huge for both men and women,” says Beverly Suliteanu, vice-president of product development.

FYSH UK F-3621

For women, the FYSH UK model F-3614 features a laser-cut groove along the front that gives the impression of a thin pinstripe pattern.
For men, Evatik model E-9174 has thick, coloured stripes that add a playful mix of colour.
The use of geometric shapes and patterns is also very popular.

Evatik E-9176

FYSH model F-3621 features an uneven shattered pattern enhanced in a gold tone.
For men, Evatik E-9179 offers a mix of geometric patterns – the cross-hatch pattern seamlessly forms into a herringbone sequence on the temples.

“Retro-inspired shapes and details are still on the rise as well as thin profile metals,” says Suliteanu. “Bright colours along with translucent acetates and classic metallic colours” are very popular this year.

For women, a new take on the trend of crystal acetates is soft nude shades layered with metallic accents.
FYSH UK style F-3623 features laminated layers of crystal acetate with a stylized rose gold brow bar.

For men, Evatik E-9177 offers a monochromatic layering with a minimalistic design.

The surge in coloured crystal acetates has been noted by Optika Eyewear.
The Blaine & Taylor eyewear collection features new designs with a variety of different types of crystal acetates.

“The colours that truly stand out for women, are aqua blues and vivid fuchsias,” says Richard Allan, vice-president of sales.

Optika is noticing the strong return of metal frames for men.

“This season, we are featuring six new styles for our Soho Tech eyewear collection,” says Allan.
Model ST9010 features a single bar on the top, for a new look.
Model NC1338 Navy from the Nat & Coco Homme collection is a new take on the double bridge for men.

The increased demand for metal designs is also noticeable with Serengeti.

“Metal sporty designs in navigator shapes are still sought after by men, but they want a little more than just the classic metal navigator,” says Rene Gerber, marketing manager.
Serengeti’s 2019 Classic Collection features Spello and Tellaro.

These two metal styles feature bright colours inside the temples that subtly spice up this timeless design.
For women, there is a trend in “vintage shapes, feminine designs in warm colours, like tortoise and honey.”

Raffaele is Serengeti’s most vintage shape for the upcoming season.

Serengeti Leonora

To complement the Raffaele is the elegant and trendy Leonora.
Both styles are from the Serengeti Acetate collection, produced and cured from all-natural cotton.

Both metal usage and built-up details are on the rise for the coming year.
The Ogi Eyewear Red Rose Paiva cat-eye shape shows off its contrasting metals and designerly shielding along the temple rim. The Red Rose Asti frame is a classic P3 round shape and is available in muted coloured choices.

“With the major incorporation of metals, we’re seeing the use of natural, true metal colours like silver, gold and rose gold,” says Ogi designer Chelsey Wright. “Along with metals, the practice of revitalizing vintage wear is an exciting, ongoing project.”

There is a focus this year on lightweight, slim designs, according to Alternative/Plan “B” Eyewear.

“Chunky looks have not come back around yet,” says Cassandra Slepian, marketing.
“Definitely keeping to some of the very cool vintage inspirations we’ve been seeing, Aviators and cat-eyes taken to their modern extreme, animal print and other graphic prints are also going to be present for the 2019 year.”

Glacee GL6886

These looks are visible in Glacee models GL6885 and GL6886.

“Oversized rounds and the playful use of empty or negative space is also creating big looks.”
