
Harbir studied Kinesiology and attained his Bachelor of Applied Science degree at Simon Fraser University. He then moved to Boston to study at the New England College of Optometry and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2010.
Dr. Sian returned to Vancouver to begin practicing and it soon became abundantly clear that too many people were unaware of the importance of their eye health. Harbir knew he needed to spread the word… And so began AboutMyEyes.com.
Since then, Dr. Sian has written many blogs; started multipls video series including For Your Eyes Only with and Chiasma; launched The 20/20 Podcast; traveled to South America and the Middle East to perform eye exams in underdeveloped areas; and been awarded Young Optometrist of the Year by the BC Doctors of Optometry.

A few weeks ago, the FTC introduced some regulatory changes with regards to contact lens prescriptions for optometrists in the US. There were also some additional comments made by the FTC Commissioner, which sounded a lot like the comments made by the Health Minister 10 years ago when contact lens sales were completely deregulated. In this conversation with Dr. Jennifer Lyerly of Defocus Media, I share our experiences here in BC since the deregulation as well as why it is so important for ODs in the US to rally against these types of changes.
