SNAP, CRACKLE, POP. THAT’S NOT YOUR BREAKFAST CEREAL; IT’S YOUR GLASSES. THE GOOD NEWS IS, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY. SEVERAL EYEWEAR COMPANIES HAVE DESIGNED AND LAUNCHED UNBREAKABLE OR FLEXIBLE FRAMES FOR THE CANADIAN MARKETPLACE.
Marchon Eyewear, which this year signed an exclusive global licensing agreement
to manufacture and distribute Columbia-branded sun and ophthalmic collections, has just brought its new “tested tough” Columbia Eyewear collection to Canada.
The new sun and optical collection is geared towards active, modern-day men that live for the outdoors. Providing ultimate comfort and durability, the new eyewear collection consists of nine sun styles and 12 optical styles.
“Columbia eyewear is a great opportunity to provide more options for outdoor enthusiasts,” says Pierre Bessez, managing director of Marchon Canada.
The Columbia Peak Freak sunglasses are constructed into a compact, folding style for the outdoor adventurist that lives life to the extreme. With seamless portability, adjustable rubber temple tips and rubber nose pads, these frames can be pushed to the limit.
In the optical styles, C8003 is ready for outdoor adventures. It has a sharp, bold silhouette, with hand-carved acetate.
Marchon’s Flexon Evolution collection, meanwhile, continues to enhance its unique eyewear
offerings with innovative technology.
The Latitude Series boasts a new level of design. Frames in this series feature beta-titanium temples with intricate laser-cut patterns that create a unique visual, while increasing the temple’s lateral resilience. The pattern provides flexibility without the need for a spring hinge. Additionally, each frame features a Flexon bridge for the superior durability needed to endure an active, everyday lifestyle.
There are four models in the Flexon Latitude Series — E1010, EE1011, E1012 and E1013. Two styles are available with a fl at metal stainless steel front and flat metal Flexon bridge. The other two are standard styles with direct soldered Flexon bridges.
Tura Inc. has expanded its high-tech TITANflex brand, which features frames that are super flexible at the bridge and temple, ultra-lightweight, comfortable and less breakable than traditional frames.
“These TITANflex styles are sophisticated and modern, with a unique construction not common for memory metal product,” says TITANflex brand manager Jelena Halliburton. “The use of acetate materials on fronts, flat sheet memory metal bridge and pierced temples create a strong styling voice that inspires confidence and individuality.
“The models also have a focus on performance accents, masculine colours and create visual interest.”
Model 827013 has interesting architectural details and is suitable for men who require a strong, resilient frame that is able to withstand everyday abuse.
The modern and youthful rectangle in styles 820695 and 820696 has a direct soldered sheet memory metal bridge with sporty rubber-coated temples which are smooth to the touch. The colour blocked section of the temple is rubber over memory metal tubes.
This allows the frame to fl ex and bend in a method that challenges an average spring hinge.
Flexible and unbreakable frames are also available for kids of all ages.
Zoobug London offers one-piece Rubber Flex “Active” frames.
Four ophthalmic styles in a new versatile modern rubber material provide a completely flexible and virtually indestructible option.
The frames are free from joints and metal parts and boast an adjustable ultraflexible hinge, making them resilient and easy to wear.
