Tumbling down the wonderland

Giant lamps, gold lines, and cotton-candy blue highlights. Product and interior designer Nika Zupanc imagines the illusion modern Alice in Wonderland lends to her second retail interior design for Morela and its eyewear in Ljubljana. The tale of Alice tumbling down and chancing upon the realm of Wonderland might have fueled her blueprint, but the touch of reality and sophistication has graced their presence into her design through the use of stacks of blocks that form part of her vision to build a symmetrical look.

Zupanc transforms the optical boutique into a system of drawers designed as blocks and lined with gold streaks as her approach to a unified look and style. Big, circular mirrors seem to double the size of the space and create the fantasy of the interconnectedness the space anchors. Placing two giant lamps into the interior dominates the space and amplifies the dwarfing over the small-scaled eye and sunglasses boxed in clear cabinets, the attention to Alice-in-Wonderland detail Zupanc aimed to carry out.

Morela collection

Aside from curating the interior space of the eye center, Nika Zupanc has also designed a collection for Morela, the first ever designer to do so. The brand believes it embodies persistence, commitment, and knowledge acquired through decades, and rightfully thinks the continuation of its lineage must be upheld and birthed skilfully. Tapping Nika Zupanc to design the first line of Morella frames is no coincidence as Morela shares since the designer understands and reflects on the aforementioned Morela virtues.

‘Her design pieces speak the language of emotion, and simultaneously shine in their precisely disciplined form. Instead of shadows, they project noir movies and fill us with a warm feeling that we have finally become the star of the movie that we have only dared to play behind the curtains of our eyes thus far,’ the brand shares.

Visual distinction

Morela frames by Nika Zupanc mark the outcome of Morela’s philosophy, emphasizing vision, visual distinction, and a visibly more effective embodiment of the person one wishes to become. The frames support the display of personal identity, handcrafted from materials sourced in Italian workshops.

Metal accents, finely fitted hinges, and dots of silver or golden bow that establish Morela and Zupanc’s signatures conceive eyewear that sits on the boundary between classicality and modernity, entwining style principles from the past and present.
