The Vision Council was selected as a winner in the 19th annual National Health Information Awards. This program recognizes the nation’s best consumer health information programs and materials.
The Kids Ultraviolet (UV) Brochure with Stickers received a Silver Award for Booklet / Brochure /Pamphlet and the 2011/2012 Readers Campaign (video series) was awarded a Bronze Award for Total Health Information Program.
“We were delighted to participate in the National Health Information Awards program and
were honored to be selected as a winner among a wide variety of leading organizations in the consumer health field,” said Maureen Beddis, vice president of marketing and communications for The Vision Council. “Our winning entries were chosen from nearly 1,000 submissions judged by a national panel of health information experts.”
The Kids UV Brochure is fun activity pamphlet with games, puzzles and stickers, designed to educate children (and their parents) about the dangers of unprotected UV exposure and to promote wearing sunglasses, or other UV-protective eyewear, year-round. This educational resource, and others, is available for free to eye care providers through The Vision Council’s online store at
Released last fall, the Readers Campaign offers a humorous take on the potential pitfalls of not wearing reading glasses and positions the eyewear as a functional and stylish necessity.
The four-part video series targets males aged 40-55 – emerging presbyopes – through a mix of social media and blogger outreach, including placement on AARP’s blog. A new series is expected to launch next month.
The awards program is coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center, a national
clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials.
